Apologies, do we need to have a close family member in Canada to be able to contact members of Parliament? For example, someone who can follow up on our behalf? Does the response time usually exceed twice the average time? And for ATIP, should a lawyer request this or is it done through a web form on the portal? I would appreciate your guidance.
The requester of an ATIP must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a resident of Canada. Regarding the request from a representative, generally, representatives handle the cases of individuals residing within their electoral district. Therefore, having someone in Canada will certainly be helpful.
